Fiona Pienkowska
I studied ‘Fine Art’ painting for degree and then an MA at Central Saint Martins studying Illustration, specializing in printmaking .I am a member of the Southbankprintmakers Gallery in London, where I regularly exhibit and sell my work.
I use the ‘drypoint’ printmaking method, which allows me to ‘hand colour’ my prints using watercolour, gouache and sometimes collage. I usually produce work in editions of about twenty five. The prints shown here are each approximately 60 x 40 cm or under, unless otherwise stated.
I have been inspired by artists from Hogarth to Edward Burra and the German expressionists amongst others who have worked in the figurative, narrative tradition.
I recreate scenes from everyday life based on observations of people I see. I am fascinated by the city and London in particular. I document institutions such as the local café, pub and ‘pie and mash shop and places of public recreation like the fair. I aim to record the detailed fabric of ordinary life which is forever changing and renewing itself.
